From “Monet refuses the operation”__ Lisel Mueller
"Doctor, you say that there are no haloes
around the streetlights in Paris
and what I see is an aberration…
.
I tell you it has taken me all my life
to arrive at the vision of gas lamps as angels,"
Squint your eyes at night in a restaurant and a woman’s face comes out of the dark, glowing. Science would say women do not glow, they only reflect. People glow in a color we can not see. Psychologists might suggest a woman glows with promise; but only under the spell of infatuation. Perhaps so, but it seems better if they simply glow.
People back lit by powerful sun light dissolve into a shadow around which the light expands. The light dances with the people to a music of interacting waves. Advanced math and physics have proven that not only the light, but we ourselves, are best described as waves. You are a bundle of vibrations, even on a good day. How do you like the notion of our most accurate portraits being painted with unimaginable equations, at the expense of intuition?.
I would like for intuition to still have a role. It seems a poor design if we are cut off from sensing our being. What about Van Gogh and Edvard Munch? They captured the dance in their paintings long before the concept of a quantum quark popped into anyone’s mind. Of course, they were both crazy as loons at the time.
These paintings show how I see it.
